Dr Sanket Pisat is actively involved in training interested students who have completed their post graduation in gynaecology. The art and science of minimal access surgery is not a part of the routine curriculum for the post graduate examinations in most medical colleges and universities. Also, since the learning curve is long and steep, most people choose to not learn these techniques for fear of complications.
However, laparoscopic and hysteroscopic surgery, like any other speciality, require dedicated training for long periods of time before the student becomes proficient to perform these surgeries independently. This involves building up of basic concepts of instrumentation, understanding the physics behind working of equipment like electrocautery, high definition cameras, cold light sources, ultrasonic energy devices and much more. Gradually, the candidate is able to perform simple surgeries under supervision. Over time, more complex procedures can be attempted as one gains the requisite skill and experience.
Dr Sanket Pisat conducts a three month fellowship program to train students in basic and advanced concepts of gynaecological endoscopy. The course involves lectures, one on one discussions about recorded surgeries, and training on simulators and pelvi trainers. Depending on his/her understanding of the subject, the candidate is allowed to assist Dr Sanket Pisat as first assistant, or perform minor surgeries under strict one to one supervision.
Dr Sanket Pisat was the national co-ordinator for the FEES course (Fertility Enhancing Endoscopic Surgery) organised by ISAR (Indian Society for Assisted Reproduction) in 2018. This year long program consisted of a two day training module every month that trained students about the basics of hysteroscopy and laparoscopy.
Highlights of the course were the specific practical problem solving lectures, hysteroscopy simulator sessions, and wet lab training on animal models. Candidates from all over India attended the course.
